The War of 1812 is often considered a forgotten
conflict of America's past. Often overshadowed by the Napoleonic War occurring at the same time, the War of 1812 helped define a young American republic in a world ridden with social upheaval, industrial change, and political revolution. The conflict help lay the foundation of the United States as a world power and opened the door for "Manifest Destiny" by white settlers into the western territories. This website will explore major themes of this conflict in the context of four of its major campaigns: The Great Lakes, the capitol of Washington, Baltimore, and New Orleans. Also included here are links and descriptions to historic sites, educational and travel materials, and an extensive bibliography. Through all of these resources, visitors will have the potential to learn, explore, and have a newly found appreciation of America's "Unfinished Revolution."
